Invisalign clear aligners are a very popular choice for teeth straightening among teenagers. Today, we’d like to explore exactly why this orthodontic option is such a great one for teens.
Let’s start by looking at the most obvious reason that teens tend to prefer Invisalign to traditional metal braces: they’re clear.
Invisalign aligners are made of a smooth, transparent plastic. This makes them virtually undetectable when worn. There are obvious social benefits to this for teenagers (and adults, too!).
Because these clear aligners aren't as noticeable, many people won’t ever really be aware that your teen is having his or her teeth straightened. This can result is less teasing from peers.
However, even if your teen doesn't experience teasing because of his or her braces, teenagers can nonetheless be quite self-conscious about their appearances, and would rather avoid singling themselves out in any way; they’d prefer to just fit in and feel ‘normal’. Invisalign can help them avoid feeling insecure about their appearances during their orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign aligners are removable.
Because Invisalign aligners are removable, your teen will be able to continue to brush and floss as normal during orthodontic treatment.
It's easy to feel impatient with the extensive process of cleaning teeth while wearing metal braces. This can mean that often, during their busy days, teens won't always take as much time as they ought to to carefully clean their teeth and braces after each meal or snack.
Invisalign allows them to completely avoid this problem. The aligners can simply be removed during a meal, and then placed back in after a careful but normal brushing afterwards!
This brings us to yet another plus: there’s no need to worry about food getting stuck in Invisalign aligners to cause embarrassment later! It's very easy to get food stuck in traditional braces, but again, because the aligners are removable, Invisalign eliminates this problem.
Invisalign also means fewer appointments at the orthodontist’s office!
We’re always happy to see our patients, but we're also well aware that most of them lead busy lives that can makes it tricky to find time to visit us for adjustment appointments. Teenagers and children usually have to miss school for these appointments, which is of course never a good thing!
Invisalign consists of a series of aligners, and each set of aligners is replaced every other week or so at home as you progress through treatment. This means your teen will have to visit our office less frequently, which results in less missed school, and one less appointment to fit into those busy schedules.
